Two cars of the same model and year can carry different engines. The code is stamped on the block, and it is what our finders search on. Send it if you have it — otherwise the VIN gives it to us.
Within one engine family these differ in pistons, cooling, oil feed and management. They are not interchangeable, even where the block looks identical.
The single biggest price factor. The report states mileage and part age, and says what the donor car was where the supplier knows it.

Some suppliers compression-test or turn an engine over before selling; many do not. Whatever was done is stated on the report, and where nothing was done the field reads “Not provided” rather than being filled in.
On many modern cars the ECU is paired to the car, not the engine. Buying the ECU with the engine can save a coding job — or create one. We note whether an option includes it.
The warranty on a used part is the supplying shop’s, never ours. Most give none at all. Where a shop does give one it is short and written on the bill in your name, and it covers the part working rather than whether it fits. Whatever the answer is, it is on the report before you pay, including when the answer is none.
